Are your vehicles ready for spring? Here are the auto repair and maintenance needs you should perform this season.

Check Tires and Alignment

Whether you use winter tires or all-season tires, the change in season is the perfect time to check them. Check the tread depth and pressure and rotate your tires if you’re not swapping out winter tires for all-season tires. Rotating your tires ensures even wear and extends their lifespan. Checking your alignment also helps your tires wear evenly, as well as improving the vehicle’s handling.

Check Brakes, Fluid Levels, Belts, and Hoses and Battery

You should check many components of your vehicle regularly. Check your brake pads and rotors to see how much they wore down over the winter. You should also check the brake fluid level, as well as other important fluids, including oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid. Cold weather can affect these fluid levels, so top them off if they are low.

Cold weather can also affect hoses, belts, and the battery. Hoses and belts are rubber, which can become brittle in the cold. Check for cracks or fraying and replace any that are in bad shape. Extreme cold can affect the battery’s ability to hold a charge. Test the battery and replace it if you find any problems or if it is older than 5 years.

Check Accessories and Exterior

Finally, you need to check your accessories and the vehicle’s exterior. Ice and snow can destroy your wiper blades, so if they are streaking, you should replace them.

Another important accessory to check is the air conditioner. Before the weather gets too hot, check the A/C to ensure it is working and recharge the refrigerant if necessary.

Now that the days are longer, you don’t need to use your headlights as often, but you still want to know they work. Check all the connections and replace any burnt-out or dim bulbs.

Spring is also a good time to wash the salt and grime from the winter off your car. Keeping the car clean will help prevent rust and corrosion. Have it waxed for an extra layer of protection.
